About EFT
EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques) is a safe, non-invasive, gentle way to release emotional charge from trauma, resolve imbalances, and reconnect with our inner capacities and wisdom. Developed in the early 1990s, it has been used successfully by hundreds of thousands around the world to resolve a wide variety of physical, mental, and emotional issues, including trauma and abuse. The technique involves actively rebalancing the body's energetic flow while focusing on a problem or discomfort. This act of gently bringing together an inner disturbance with a body-level experience of comfort and connection facilitates healing of the separation between the sense of self and the body experience. As this separation diminishes, body and mind resynchronize, and wholeness is restored.
EFT is considered a form of energy psychology (or energy medicine). These approaches use the body's bioelectric system, the same system used by medical technologies such as EKGs and pacemakers, to stimulate healing. In EFT, this body system is stimulated primarily by tapping on the energy meridians used for centuries in acupuncture and acupressure, hence the often heard description of EFT as "emotional acupressure."
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a psychotherapy technique that helps people heal from the symptoms and emotional distress that are the result of disturbing life experiences. Repeated studies show that by using EMDR therapy people can experience the benefits of psychotherapy that once took years to make a difference. EMDR therapy shows that the mind can in fact heal from psychological trauma much as the body recovers from physical trauma.
The brain’s information processing system naturally moves toward mental health. If the system is blocked or imbalanced by the impact of a disturbing event, the emotional wound festers and can cause intense suffering. Once the block is removed, healing resumes. Using the detailed protocols and procedures learned in EMDR therapy training sessions, clinicians help clients activate their natural healing processes.
